Celebrating Adult Social Care in Shropshire – Tanya Miles, Executive Director for People

It was my privilege to open Shropshire’s Adult Social Care conference last week, as social workers, suppliers and stakeholders came together to network, learn and share.

We heard from outstanding colleagues who shared their stories on best practice as we all adapt to the challenging landscape in the sector, and one of our inspirational experts by experience gave a keynote speech to set the theme for the event.

The day was an opportunity to showcase our innovative assistive TEC and virtual care projects, which are transforming the way we deliver services as a rural county, helping residents reach their goals for independent living.  Guests had the chance to speak to our suppliers and learn more about the technology that is changing the game in this exciting new chapter for social care.

We hosted engaging workshops on our upcoming CQC inspection, as well as on learning culture and removing blame and shame in social work.

Around 100 people attended the whole event and a number of passers by stopped to find out more, enticed by the energy and enthusiasm in the room.

A heartfelt thanks goes to everybody who joined in the conference.  In our busy working lives, we don’t get a lot of time to reflect on the amazing things we achieve together.  Days like this are an important reminder that we are all playing our part in transforming people’s lives and, with a progressive and resourceful new approach, have more tools than ever to make a difference in the work we do.
